Press Release: February 15, 2012 The Stoney Creek Canada Flag Day Festival Committee is pleased to announce that this year and next, we will be honouring our Canadian Flag as part of our community’s Bi-Centennial celebrations. The 2012 Festival will be held on July 22nd from 12 - 4 pm as part of the Regency Family Picnic at Battlefield Park. Some of the activities and information planned include an historical storyboard, crafts and face painting for the children, contests and prizes. As details of the Canada Flag Day Festival become available, they will be posted for the public on the Stoney Creek Canada Flag Day website, www.stoneycreekcanadaflagday.com ”We are proud to share in the commemoration of the events of 1812-13 that happened right here in Stoney Creek, that defined our country and subsequently our Canadian Flag. It’s an opportune time for Stoney Creek Canada Flag Day to meet its mandate.” said Chair, Connie Behie. The mandate of the Stoney Creek Canada Flag Day Festival is: 1.To involve citizens in an event that promotes the Canadian flag, fellowship, and pride in Stoney Creek. 2.To increase public awareness of the Canadian flag 3.To provide education about the Canadian flag and its inception 4.To promote the use of the Canadian flag within the community 5.To celebrate the heritage of Stoney Creek, through links with such community activities as the Battle of Stoney Creek. We encourage everyone to join in the celebration of the upcoming Bi-Centennial by attending the events planned for 2012 - 2013 in Stoney Creek. The next Stoney Creek Canada Flag Day Parade will take place in 2014 on Saturday, May 31st at 2:00 pm on King Street, from Gray’s Road to Wardrope Avenue.
